2012 Team Purebred Show Changes

2011 was an extremely successful year for Team Purebred. In February, we introduced the participation based P.L.u.S. program sponsored by Eby Trailers. June and July brought record numbers at both the World Pork Expo and the National Junior Show in Springfield. The first P.L.u.S. trailer was given away to 5 year old Read Naughton of Atlanta, IL during the STC awards ceremony. The fall schedule saw significant increases in all shows and events which we attribute to P.L.u.S.

We want to continue to expand on our success and offer more opportunities for our membership. In 2012, we are happy to once again have Herefords at the National Junior Show. In addition, The Tamworth Swine Association will be joining the junior show. Both breeds will offer classes in both barrows and gilts divisions and enjoy the all same champion awards offered in the four original Team Purebred breeds.

Team Purebred will also offer the first ever 10 breed barrow show on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. We will permit Team Purebred members to bring Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, and Yorkshire barrows born December 1, 2011 and after. To exhibit one of these animals, the member must exhibit a Team Purebred Gilt for each non-TP breed barrow. These breeds will offer the same Champion and Reserve awards, but no bred & owned monies. Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, and Yorkshire champions will not participate in the grand barrow drive following the show. Also new in 2012, there will be an opportunity to market your barrow following the junior show if you wish. More details will be available as STC approaches.

Also new in 2012 will be the Supreme Champion Gilt award. At the National Junior Show and the World Pork Expo, Team Purebred will select an overall Gilt Champion and Reserve. We hope this continues to provide opportunities for members and advertising for our breeders.

We look forward to giving away the second P.L.u.S. trailer lease at Springfield on Friday night June 29, 2012. Make sure you participate in all contests and exhibit all your Team Purebred animals at as many venues as possible to increase your chances in 2012.

Team Purebred currently publishes two annual newsletters to keep its members informed of what is happening in the association. The newsletters remind members of upcoming deadlines, explain show and contest rules and provide detailed information about the organization's events.
